Taiwan, Asia

Invited to represent Canada in the Republic of China during the International Children’s Folklore Festival. There were 300,000 spectators who attended the performances during the festival. We enjoyed the friendly Taiwanese & their culture and they appeared to really enjoy all of our performances. A lot of sightseeing was enjoyed, especially the many beautiful Temples, Turtle Island and a city tour of Taipei and the Chaing Kai Chek Memorial. It was especially memorable to meet members of the Lions Club from Taiwan & Singapore during the banquet held in our honour.

Our costume co-ordinator sewed a hand-made kilt which she began during the first show and completed the kilt by the last show and presented the finished product to the government as a special gift from Forrester’s Cape Breton Scottish Dance Company. Each day the Taiwanese watched intently as the seamstress carefully sewed the pleats together and were very intrigued to see the art of kiltmaking.
